Can You Really Choose Your Own Destiny?

It sounds cliche but I believe you really can choose your own destiny.

This may be so far fetched for some people because they feel weak, frustrated, depressed, or stressed.

If you feel this way you don’t understand yourself … You don’t understand who you really are!

Are you someone who would rather play the blame game and be a victim in your own life instead of take responsibility?

I see so many people that moan and groan that they have been unjustly treated by their mother, father, husband, friend, minister … even God.

You have probably been unjustly treated. We all have. However, it’s not the treatment itself that matters. It’s how you handle it that makes all the difference.

It should give you peace of mind to know that you have a choice. You have a choice in how you react to, and think about, your life experiences.

Out of all the universal possibilities, you have the power to choose what you experience in life.  You should not let anyone else choose for you.

Your power to choose is what makes you a powerful human being – and your choices determine your destiny – happy or unhappy, success or failure, victim or valor.

I had a client come to me once who was suffering tremendously. She told me “if I had the nerve, I’d commit suicide. I just can’t do this anymore”.

I explained to her it doesn’t take courage to want to die … that it takes courage to want to live … to really live!

She was in victim mode, blaming her “horrible, tragic life” on God, her family and all of the other life circumstances of which she had no control.

It began to dawn on her that she was giving all the power and control of her happiness to things outside of herself … God, family, life … assuming no power or control for herself.

She was choosing to be the victim and, from that place, she was powerless.

She began to realize that through her own attitudes, misconceptions and beliefs, she was the cause of her own despair.

In working with her, she realized that God wasn’t mistreating her, or punishing her … rather, she was mistreating and punishing herself.

With this realization, she was able to rediscover herself, realizing that she is an instrument through which life could express itself.

The power you have is undeniable! You experience life according to what you believe about yourself.

If you feel depressed, stressed, weak or frustrated it’s because you don’t know the real you.  The wonderful, amazing, important you that you really are!

In our western culture, we’ve been taught to look outside of ourselves for power, strength, happiness … when the reality is it’s only within ourselves that we can find what we’re looking for.

It’s time to awaken to to the greatest teacher of all time … the higher power that is within you.
