Do You Know Your Self Worth?

do you value your self worth

Self worth … interesting topic, isn’t it?

In the spirit of St. Patricks day, I have been thinking about Irish Leprechauns and Pots of Gold.

The Irish leprechauns always find their pot o’ gold at the end of the rainbow, which got me thinking about core worth … your personal pot o’ gold! I’m wondering how you regard your own core worth.

You were born with your very own, rather large, pot o’ gold!  Each piece of gold represents your core qualities of love, compassion, creativity, wisdom, emotional intelligence, kindness, compassion and respect for self and others. These core qualities are present because you’re deeply connected to your Higher Self and to Spirit.

Many people forget about their core qualities s – the value of their pot o’ gold. Instead of focusing on the gold itself, they look outside themselves to certain traits and behaviors. For instance, if you only see yourself as a golfer, you’re sense of self-worth (the value of your pot o’ gold) will be deflated when you have a bad round.

When you’re able to look within, and embrace the value of your own self worth – your personal pot o’ gold –  you know that your traits and behaviors are a result of how you value your worth. You know that your worth is not valued based on one particular trait, your value is made up of many. So when you play a bad round of golf, it won’t be a big deal.

Your core qualities will manifest in your life in different ways, based on how well you value yourself and how well you’ve embraced each one. How well do you value your core qualities? Do you know your self worth?

A Self Worth Exercise

Take a look at each quality listed below and rank yourself on a scale of 1 (non-existent) to 10 (well developed). Rate each one on it’s own merits and be completely honest with yourself. Also, don’t judge yourself for how you answered each one. Remember, you have each of these core qualities. You were born with them! The goal here is to see how you are currently expressing or embarcing each core quality in your life right now.

  • Intellectual Intelligence
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Personal Ethics (honest, trustworthy, strong morals)
  • Creativity/Problem Solving
  • Wisdom/Rational Thinking
  • Self-Compassion
  • Compassion for Others
  • Sense of Humor (enjoy it or have it)
  • Self-Respect
  • Respect for Others
  • Passion for Personal Growth/Improvement
  • Willingness to Change/Adapt

STOP! Don’t go any further until you’ve ranked yourself! (No cheating here!)

Okay, thanks for playing along!

Now, if you were totally honest with yourself, you will notice that some of these core qualities were ranked higher than others. You’ll be at different stages of development for each one. Each core quality, or piece of gold, is important. However, together, they shine big and bright!  You’re a diamond in the rough, work in progress. Treasure the diamond and work on the rough parts (notice I didn’t call them flaws!).

Look at where you ranked higher than a 5.  Which of these core qualities do you feel the best about and why?

Using the pot o’ gold analogy, consider each piece of gold you ranked. Which one will shine the brightest? Which pieces of gold will others recognize, appreciate and enjoy?

Which pieces of gold need a little polishing?

As humans, we express ourselves in a variety of ways and we discover different ways to express our own core self worth.

How do you express yours?

Hugs … because everybody could use one!
