In this episode, Gene LaPierre talks about how his journey towards becoming a competitive ballroom dancer, opening his own dance studio and ultimately starting an amazing non-profit to help others! Gene is dedicated to helping people with special needs, which is ironic because he talks about how we was afraid of kids with special needs when he was a little boy. Now, he is committed to helping them enjoy life.
He has seen how ballroom dancing can enhance lives of children and adults. Gene’s ability to ‘connect’ allows others, regardless of demographics, challenges, health issues, or special needs to feel joy; have a voice that wasn’t previously heard; and be valued as an equal as we should all be. He gives them opportunities to enjoy life through dance, touch and competitions. He even talks about helping kids in wheel chairs learning how to do ballroom dancing.
He even talks about a study that was published in the New England Journal of Medicine that revealed evidence that ballroom dancing can help patients with Alzheimer’s.
