Exercises to Overcome Depression

Did you know that there are exercises to overcome depression? In fact, there are a ton of natural ways to beat the blues!  You don’t need to fill up your medicine cabinet to be happy again!  In fact, in most cases, going on meds will do you no good at all (more on that in another post) and could make matters worse!

I came across this video recently and it speaks to what depression really is and exercises you can use to overcome it. Depression is commonly misunderstood, misdiagnosed and mistreated. As a result, it’s hard to sift through fact or fiction. (Note: You can “like” my Facebook Page and you’ll get fully informed about that!)

If you’ve been following me at all, you’ll know that I am on a mission to debunk the myths about depression, help destigmatize this thing, and give you the solutions you need to overcome depression once and for all …  naturally!

Years ago I went to a traditional “talk therapist” and, quite frankly, while it felt good to tell someone my woes, it didn’t make me feel much better.  Eventually, I found a Core Energetic therapist that is trained in body/energy psychotherapy.  What does this mean? It means that, in addition to talking – movement, breath work and sound is also used so that energy can be unblocked and can begin to move again.

When we experience something that invokes a very strong emotional reaction, we have a tendency to develop a chronic holding in our bodies as a way of blocking these feelings.  This chronic holding (such a locking the jaw, holding your breath, contracting the pelvis, collapsing the shoulders, etc.)  not only defends from feeling the so-called bad emotions, but it blocks all emotions … thus DEPRESSION IS BORN!

When I worked with a Core therapist, I was encouraged to kick the crap out of a cube, wring a towel to death, have a temper tantrum on a mattress. For those of you that have never done this before, and are chronically holding, even reading this probably stirs up an emotional reaction … such as anxiety.  However, I can tell you that it changed my life!  I was finally able to release all the rage and anger I was hiding (but didn’t even know it necessarily) and all of the deep longing, sadness and pain that was underneath.  I used Core Energetics exercises to overcome depression and I finally felt alive again!

I loved it so much, that I got my Masters in Psychotherapy and became a Certified Core Energetic Practitioner myself.  The methods are extremely beneficial for people who are feeling depressed.  Which leads me to this video.

 

Elliott Hulse was trained in Bioenergetics, very similar to Core Energetics in many ways.  And in this video he demonstrates some great exercises to overcome depression! Now, when I say exercise I am not using it in the traditional sense. These are exercised designed to tap into your vital life force energy by going through a charge / discharge cycle.  As usual, the exercises seem a bit odd, strange and well, maybe to you … even a bit scary!

But they work!  

If you’re struggling with depression, even mild depression, you should just this out and give it a whirl!  I guarantee it will  make you feel much better!
